Vornado Picks CWS for Solar Control Film Removal, Installation Project

November 22, 2016

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Vornado/Charles E. Smith has once again selected Commercial Window Shield for a film installation project in the nation’s capitol region.
The project, at Vornado’s Crystal Plaza 4 building at 2200 Crystal Drive, involves removing 15-year-old solar control film from all the windows in the 11-story building and replacing it with new solar control film. The original film is in poor condition and results in poor visibility looking out from inside the building.
In total, Commercial Window Shield will be replacing and installing 30,763 sq. ft. of solar control film on 1,360 panes of glass.
Vornado is renovating the entire building for a number of new tenants and the film removal and installation is an important part of this process.  The film installation also involves an energy savings component. An analysis carried out by Commercial Window Shield engineers found that Vornado can recoup its film investment in six years through improved energy efficiency in the building since the film will help reduce solar intrusions that spike the building’s HVAC system.
The company also can take advantage of a rebate of 85 cents per square feet of window film offered by Dominion Virginia Power.
Over the past 10 years, Commercial Window Shield has installed security window film on more than 30 Vornado buildings in the Washington, D.C. area as part of GSA’s lease renewal security requirements. Vornado/Charles E. Smith is the largest owner/property manager in the national capitol region.  The federal government leases space in a number of the company’s 73 Washington-area buildings.
Commercial Window Shield is the country’s largest installer of security and solar window films.  Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 30 years are the U.S. Capitol, all House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], the United Nations, and the Philadelphia and Denver mints.
