CWS Picked for Phase 2 Whiting Turner Project in D.C.

November 07, 2012

WASHINGTON – Whiting Turner, one of the country’s top construction companies, has once again chosen Commercial Window Shield to secure windows and improve energy efficiency at the new Consolidated Forensics Laboratory [CFL] in central Washington, D.C.

As happened with Phase 1 of the project in June, Commercial Window Shield will be installing a 10-mil film with a four-sided attachment system to provide shatter resistant protection and solar protection for windows in the forensic lab section of the building.

The new complex, at 4th and School streets, will house the District of Columbia’s public safety, health and forensic science departments, and other city and federal agencies.

Whiting Turner chose CWS because of a successful relationship between the companies in previous window film installation projects – including Phase 1 at CFL - and the understanding that CWS can handle challenging tasks.

The CFL project, for instance, required significant preparation in the pre-installation stage.  A compatibility testing of the Dow 995 structural silicone attachment system and an on-site adhesion test were performed to ensure proper adhesion of the film to the building’s windows.  The building’s architect wanted to make sure the film was compatible with the building design, so CWS installed a film mock-up on one of the windows.

Work on Phase 2 begins in mid-November.

Commercial Window Shield is the world’s largest installer of fragment retention and solar reflective window films. Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 25 years are the U.S. Capitol, House of Representatives, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O’Hare International Airport and the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower].
