CWS Completes Phase 2 Glass Protection Project at Beaverton Schools

August 29, 2016

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Commercial Window Shield has completed Phase 2 of a glass protection project for the Beaverton School District.

As with Phase 1, which was completed last summer, Phase 2 called for installation of 8-mil security and safety window film with a Dow 995 wet glass attachment system to vulnerable entry and first-floor windows. Phase 1 involved 13 Beaverton schools. Phase 2 involved the eight remaining school buildings and coordinating work with other trades working on a variety of school security projects.

The window film installation project, one of many security upgrades being completed by the district after a $10 million bond issue passed in May 2014, was competitively bid. Commercial Window Shield was selected for both Phase 1 and 2 by the general contractor based on its expertise in installing security film in schools nationwide.

As with Phase 1, First Cascade Corp. of Lake Oswego, Ore., served as general contractor for the project. The school district hired a national security expert to evaluate its school buildings prior to developing its security upgrade initiative.

The Beaverton project continues a national trend in which school districts are acting to protect their buildings from potential violent intruders. To date, the company has protected the glass in more than 175 school buildings in nine states.

Elsewhere, the company has completed safety and security film projects at Geneva, Minooka and Lake Zurich school districts in suburban Chicago; Calvert County [Md.] Public Schools; Bath Local Schools, near Lima, Ohio; Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, N.Y.; Glastonbury, Hartford and Simsbury school districts in Connecticut; Henry County in Virginia; North Penn School District in suburban Philadelphia; and Katy Schools in Katy, Texas.

With more than 30 years experience, Commercial Window Shield is the nation’s leading security and solar window film installer.  Among its many projects, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, Pentagon, and all House of Representative buildings, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver and Philadelphia mints, Grand Central Terminal and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
